The Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum (BLCPF) has expressed deep concern following a recent spike in gang-related shootings in the area. The latest incident occurred on Thursday night, when two gang members were shot and killed in Bonteheuwel, in what is believed to be part of the ongoing rivalry between the Hard Livings and the Dixie Boys gangs.
SAPS spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed that officers responded to the scene in Vlamboom Street, where the victims, aged 32 and 40, were found lying several meters apart with gunshot wounds to the head.
“Bishop Lavis detectives are hard at work pursuing leads in a bid to apprehend those responsible for the deaths of two males aged 32 and 40 last night (Thursday, 2025-10-02) at 20:25 in Vlamboom Street, Bonteheuwel. Both sustained gunshot wounds to the head,” Van Wyk said.
He urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile application anonymously.
Forum chairperson Graham Lindhorst condemned the violence and stressed the ongoing reality of crime in the area:
“As the BLCPF, we condemn these gang-related crimes and put our trust in SAPS to get a grip on the ongoing gang-related crimes in the precinct. Politicians have said the area was quiet in recent weeks, but people are being robbed every day. Guns go off every day in this precinct. Many crimes go unreported, giving the impression of calm, but it is not quiet.”
The BLCPF said it continues to call for heightened police presence and community engagement to address the persistent gang violence affecting residents in Bishop Lavis and surrounding areas.
