The Border Management Authority (BMA) stated that it is strengthening counter-corruption measures across ports of entry as part of its ongoing efforts to curb illegal movement in and out of the country.
Briefing media on the 2026 Easter operations, Commissioner Michael Masiapato said a total of 4,763 travellers were apprehended while attempting to enter or exit South Africa illegally during the period.
He said the success of border operations depends on closer cooperation between law enforcement agencies and oversight bodies to ensure a coordinated response to illegal immigration.
“The BMA maintains a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and requires collaboration with various stakeholders. The lessons learned, intelligence gathered, and partnerships strengthened during this deployment will directly inform our long-term strategic posture and enhance our future operational efficiencies,” Masiapato said.
The authority stated that the intensified operations form part of broader efforts to tighten security at ports of entry and improve enforcement capacity nationwide.
