A 45-year-old suspected drug dealer is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court following a major drug bust in Delft on Monday, where police seized mandrax tablets valued at more than R2.7 million.
According to police spokesperson FC van Wyk, officers were conducting stop-and-search operations in Buczane Street, N2 Gateway, when they stopped a silver Honda Civic and searched both the vehicle and its occupant.
“The members stopped and searched a silver Honda Civic and the occupant, where they found ten mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime,” Van Wyk said.
He added that further investigations led police to a storage facility in Stikland, where a large consignment of drugs was discovered.
“At the facility, the members found 46 packs containing 1,000 mandrax tablets each, totalling 46,000 mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of R2,760,000,” he said.
The suspect is expected to be formally charged and will appear in court once processing has been completed.
