President Jacob Zuma will be leading a wreath laying ceremony in memory of the late ANC President, Oliver Reginald Tambo, and his wife, Dr Adelaide Tambo on Thursday.
2016’s ceremony is themed “Celebrating the life, times and legacy of OR Tambo, 99 years and counting towards the centenary”.
This year’s commemoration coincides with the stalwart’s 99th birthday.
The ANC’s Ekurhuleni Regional Committee’s Jongizizwe Dlabathi says this day gives the party the opportunity to reflect and take lessons from the life and time of leaders such as OR Tambo.
Dlabathi says OR Tambo was able to keep the ANC intact, was able to unite people and was at the forefront of the liberation of the people of South Africa.
He says it is important for the ANC to learn from Tambo and continue the work that he started.
