ActionSA Files Complaints Against Social Development Minister Over Undeclared Gifts

ActionSA has filed multiple complaints against Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe over allegedly undeclared luxury gifts reportedly received from Chinese officials.

The party opened a criminal case at Cape Town Central Police Station, submitted a complaint to the Public Protector, and lodged a formal complaint with Parliament’s Ethics Committee on Wednesday.

The action follows Minister Tolashe’s response to a parliamentary question, in which she denied personally receiving two SUVs, stating that they were donated to the ANC Women’s League.

The ANC Women’s League has publicly denied any knowledge of the vehicles, while official records show they were registered in the names of the Minister’s children, with one already sold.

“This situation raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability,” said Dereleen James, ActionSA MP.

“Either the Minister received these vehicles as personal gifts and failed to declare them, or the ANC did not disclose a significant foreign donation, both of which point to misconduct.”

ActionSA described the acceptance of high-value gifts from a foreign government, allegedly concealed through family members, as a potential abuse of public office.

James added that the party has introduced a Zero-Tolerance Corruption Bill aimed at holding public officials accountable.

“We call on the President to take decisive action and ensure that such behaviour is not tolerated,” she said
