The Abraham Accords consist of a series of agreements aimed at normalizing relations with Israel. In 2020, during U.S. President Donald Trump’s first term, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed agreements, shattering a long-held taboo to become the first Arab nations to recognize Israel in 25 years. Morocco and Sudan similarly implemented changes.
Speaking to VOC News, Jeff Halper, the Director and Co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD), detailed what this means for Gaza moving forward.
“Kazakhstan joined not too long back, and Indonesia is also expected to join, but the real jewel with the crown is Saudi Arabia, and if they come in, you have the major countries of the Sunni Muslim world, and the problem with normalisation is the end – that’s the closure,” explained Halper.
“The Palestinians end up getting locked into an Apartheid Bantustan on islands on about 15% of Palestine, and then it’s all over because it’s normalised,” he added.
