A protest rejecting the Pie Amendment Bill, will take place on 15th June

A protest opposing the proposed Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land (PIE) Amendment Bill is scheduled for 15 June along Keizergracht Street in Cape Town.

Organisers say the demonstration aims to highlight concerns about the legislation’s potential impact on vulnerable communities, particularly residents of informal settlements and those facing housing insecurity.

Speaking to VOC News ahead of the protest, Indira Mtandeki from Covid Informal Settlement and a member of the Solidarity Space movement said community members are mobilising to voice their opposition to the bill and to call for greater public consultation on housing policies that directly affect poor and working-class residents.
