Following information that was received about a person in possession of an unlicensed firearm at an address in Thabong Street, Ilingelethu, the Crime Prevention Unit members conducted a thorough search and found the firearm hidden under a mattress in the main bedroom of the house.
“While questioning the occupants, they discovered that the owner of the firearm died two years ago. A 49-year-old male was arrested, and he will make his first court appearance in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s court on Thursday, 08 January 2026,” explained Constable Ndakhe Gwala.
Gwala further noted another incident involving two people being shot while the suspect fled on foot.
“The members extracted the 22-year-old male from his hideout in Elsies River. He further pointed out to the police where he had concealed the firearm. The suspect will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s court on Thursday, 08 January 2026,” added Gwala.
