The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued an urgent nationwide alert following SPAR’s recall of several yoghurt products due to a production fault that could affect product quality.
The recall includes SPAR Fat Free Yoghurt, Low Fat Yoghurt, Double Cream Yoghurt, Indulge Double Cream Yoghurt, and SPAR Active Drinking Yoghurt. The affected products have a sell-by date of 9 August 2026 and a use-by date of 12 August.
According to the NCC, the recall was prompted by a machine malfunction during the production process, which caused some products to swell or “blow”, potentially affecting their quality and safety.
Consumer Commission spokesperson Phetho Ntaba said the defect “may cause changes in the product’s taste, smell, as well as appearance.” He warned that “consumption of the affected products may cause stomach upset.”
Ntaba urged consumers who have purchased any of the affected yoghurt products not to consume them. Instead, they should return the products to their nearest SPAR store, where they will receive a full refund or exchange, even if they no longer have the original till slip.
