Mob Justice Turns Deadly After Child Rape Allegation in Eerste River

Police are investigating the murder of a 42-year-old man who was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Forest Village, Eerste River, following claims that he had kidnapped and raped a three-year-old girl. Authorities have strongly condemned vigilantism, stressing that justice must be pursued through the legal system. Separate investigations into the murder and the alleged sexual assault are currently underway.

The incident comes amid growing concerns over violence against children in the Western Cape. The Department of Health and Wellness recently revealed that 296 pregnancies were recorded among girls aged 10 to 14 during the 2024/25 financial year. The department also reported a 26.66% increase in adolescent births over the past three financial years, highlighting the escalating vulnerability of young girls and the urgent need for stronger child protection measures.

Founder of Faith and Hope Missing Persons Unit, Veranique Williams, engaged with VOC News to discuss these developments and the broader challenges surrounding child safety and gender-based violence.
