A 43-year-old was arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS for bribery and possession of counterfeit goods on Tuesday, 24 March 2026. The arrest follows the recovery of 20 duffel bags of counterfeit shoes and sneakers by Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety Officers in Bellville earlier today.
“The officers conducted a routine stop at a vehicle checkpoint on Durban Road. The driver got out of the Toyota Quantum and blocked the sliding door. He appeared nervous, and officers requested permission to conduct a search,” said Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomon.
“They found the bags filled with shoes, and the driver then offered them a R2 000 bribe to let him go,” she added.
In a separate incident later in the day, Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSOs) arrested two suspects for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in Lentegeur.
Solomon said officers were on patrol when they spotted two males who ducked into a local park upon seeing the patrol vehicle.
“Officers approached them and requested permission to conduct a search. One of the men had a firearm in his pocket and several rounds of ammunition in the magazine, while the second man had four rounds in his possession. They were detained at Lentegeur SAPS,” explained Solomon.
