Residents in Macassar, Macassar Beach, Kramat, and Sandvlei say they are frustrated as a prolonged water outage continues to disrupt daily life, with some areas now without supply for three days.
The disruption follows repeated pipe bursts on a 300mm water main supplying the reservoir in the area.
Community representative Maryam Manuel says the outage highlights ongoing infrastructure failures.
“This is not the first time. It’s recurring water pipe issues, and the system needs proper maintenance,” she said.
Manuel added that the timing has worsened the impact on residents observing Ramadan.
“It’s the sixth day of Ramadan without water. People are fasting and breaking their fast without water. We have babies, elderly residents, disabled people, and chronic patients in the community,” she said.
She also raised concerns about communication from local leadership and the quality of water supplied by tankers.
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town says repair work has been affected by repeated pipe failures and safety concerns at the site.
“The 300mm water main has experienced multiple bursts, which has delayed the restoration process. Our teams are on site and working to complete repairs as quickly as possible,” the City said.
It adds that water tankers have been deployed to assist affected residents and that higher-lying areas will only receive supply once the reservoir reaches at least 40 percent capacity.
Residents, however, say they want a long-term solution to prevent recurring disruptions.
