The streets of Bo-Kaap will be filled with various locals from the Mother City who will be gathering to share a meal with their neighbors during the yearly mass iftaar (breaking fast) on 27 February 2026.
The purpose of the iftar is to foster social unity among communities and religions, promoting the genuine essence of the rainbow nation.
Speaking to VOC News, Shafwaan Laubscher, organiser of the iftar, said road closures will be underway from 5 pm, and the official program will commence from 6 pm, accompanied with nasheeds and thikrs.
“The iftar will take place on the corner of Wale and Rose Street, and we urge the public to come with wudu (ablution) and salah mats, and a salah space will be provided,” he explained.
