The City’s law enforcement agencies apprehended over 400 individuals last week and imposed over 97,100 fines. The City’s JP Smith described the steep increase in the number of arrests as notable for enforcement agencies, while also noting the “payday phenomenon.”
“Drunk driving arrests in the past week accounted for nearly 21% of all those who ended up in custody. Road accidents also increased for the first time in several weeks. Improved personal accountability and decision-making could reduce the demand on enforcement and emergency services,” said Smith.
He added that Metro Police Officers made over 140 arrests during the weekly patrols, including 22 for driving under the influence, and issued over 3,900 traffic and by-law fines.
“Particular successes included the arrest of a 46-year-old suspect on Thursday, 22 January, for the illegal possession of a revolver and five rounds of ammunition,” stated Smith.
