Premier Alan Winde has pledged to strengthen policing and improve safety in Kraaifontein following an oversight visit to the local police station in Cape Town. The visit forms part of a broader programme targeting high-crime precincts across the Western Cape.
“The residents of Kraaifontein are understandably concerned and frustrated by the impact of violent crime on their daily lives. Through these oversight visits, I want to engage directly with priority SAPS precinct leadership to ensure that everything possible is being done to tackle crime head-on,” Winde said.
During the visit, the Premier received briefings on violent crime, property-related offences, and gang activity. He also conducted a walk-through of the station to assess infrastructure, including office space and holding cells, and spoke directly with officers about their daily operational challenges.
“These engagements are about taking the concerns of residents to SAPS leadership and ensuring that every possible intervention is explored to improve safety and protect our communities,” Winde added.
He emphasised that effective policing, alongside economic growth, is critical to reducing crime.
Further oversight visits will continue, with Winde planning to meet acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia next month to discuss strengthening policing in priority areas.
