The Disaster Risk Management Centre has confirmed that the registration process has been completed following fires that tore through multiple structures in the Dunoon area.
“The final count stands at 632 structures destroyed, with 2 604 people affected,” said Disaster Risk Management Centre spokesperson Charlotte Powell.
Powell added that Eskom, along with the City’s Water and Sanitation Department, remains on standby to assist with damaged infrastructure.
“Solid Waste services are in the process of clearing fire debris, while the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will be providing relief over the next few days,” she said.
Furthermore, the Disaster Risk Management Centre confirmed that a mobile Joint Operations Centre will remain on site until the end of the week to coordinate rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
