In response to an increase in fires affecting local communities during extreme heat, teams from the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers remain on standby, with particular attention to an active fire in Capricorn. Community leaders and affected residents notified the teams of the incident.
“Access to the site remains restricted while teams are present due to the ongoing risk posed by exploding gas bottles. Once emergency services confirm the area is safe, Gift of the Givers will promptly begin humanitarian aid operations, providing hot meals and bottled water to those affected,” stated Gift of the Givers spokesperson Ali Sablay.
“Gift of the Givers teams are providing aid to fire-affected individuals in Imizamu Yethu and Mbokweni, where humanitarian assistance is still in progress after the recent fires,” added Sablay.
According to recent reports from community leaders, the organisation reported that approximately 50 to 60 structures have been affected by fires.
