Cape Town Tops Domestic Travel Plans This Festive Season

Cape Town remains a top destination for domestic travellers this festive season, with an estimated 54% of South Africans planning getaways this month, according to Cape Town Tourism’s domestic travel agent, Briony Brookes. The Western Cape draws 48% of these travellers, with 80% choosing Cape Town for its sunshine, scenic sights, and summer experiences.
Brookes said many visitors are opting for budget-friendly options, including self-catering, staying with family, and road trips. The city has also launched its global This Is Cape Town campaign to attract international tourists.

“We know money is tighter for many households this year, but the festive break still matters to South Africans. What we are seeing is people adapting instead of cancelling. They’re travelling locally, seeking value, and choosing experiences that make their money stretch even further, all while keeping Cape Town firmly in their December plans,” Brookes said.
