The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) and the Metered Taxi and E-Hailing Association are working with e-hailing companies Bolt, Teksi Ride, and Shuma Ride to improve industry safety and collaborate under new government regulations.
The discussions centred on improving driver and passenger safety through measures such as panic buttons, as well as exploring enterprise development opportunities within the sector.
Santaco Spokesperson Mmatshikhidi Phala said all parties are committed to ongoing collaboration to strengthen the public transport industry.
“The meeting also opened the door for future initiatives, such as launching training programs for drivers, expanding access to digital payment systems, and forming a working group committee to guide ongoing cooperation and implementation,” said Phala.
The partnership aimed to create a safer, more inclusive, and unified transport system for South African commuters.
