Constitutional Court candidate Justice Nambitha Dambuza has highlighted the significance of gender representation at South Africa’s highest court. Speaking during Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interviews, which run until 15 October, Dambuza said that gender balance strengthens public trust in the judiciary.
The JSC is currently interviewing shortlisted candidates to fill vacancies in the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal, the High Courts, and the Labour Court.
“Presently, the court has four women and four men, and I think it is well poised to implement that requisite. It would enhance the confidence that people have in the court,” Dambuza said.
She added that diverse representation not only reflects the country’s demographics but also ensures broader perspectives in judicial decision-making. The ongoing JSC interviews mark a key step toward reinforcing South Africa’s judiciary and promoting inclusivity at its upper ranks.
