With just three weeks to go before the start of 2025 matric exams, Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier is urging learners to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations governing the examinations.
All matric candidates will be required to sign two key documents: a matric pledge and a commitment agreement, outlining their responsibility to uphold the integrity of exams.
Maynier highlighted the serious consequences for breaking the rules, citing that 19 candidates were disqualified from the 2024 matric exams for possession of notes or cell phones.
“We urge matric to take these documents seriously, as the consequences for infringing on the exam rules are severe. Breaking them can result in a candidate being disqualified or even facing criminal prosecution if the leaking of exam questions is involved. The message is clear. Cheating is simply not worth the risk,” said Maynier.
He encouraged all candidates to prepare diligently and approach the exams with honesty and integrity, ensuring a fair and credible assessment process.
