- Cape Town residents are being urged to prepare for sweltering weather on Tuesday (30 September), as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) predicts hot to very hot conditions across much of the Western Cape, including the City of Cape Town metropolitan area.
The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre (DRMC) has warned that temperatures could climb into the high 20s and low 30s, raising both health and environmental concerns. DRMC spokesperson Charlotte Powell advised the public to exercise caution to avoid heat-related risks.
Authorities recommend staying indoors during peak heat, avoiding strenuous outdoor activity, and keeping hydrated with plenty of water or other clear fluids. Alcohol should be avoided, and particular care should be taken for children, the elderly, pets, and those with underlying health conditions.
The DRMC confirmed it is closely monitoring the situation and will coordinate responses with City departments and partners if necessary.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any emergencies to the City’s 24-hour Emergency Communication Centre at 021 480 7700.
