UN report concludes Israel is committing genocide in Gaza

By Rachel Mohamed

Amnesty International South Africa has welcomed the UN Human Rights Council’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel, which found that Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute genocide.

Amnesty International South Africa’s Executive Director, Shenilla Mohamed, told VOC News that Israel has dismissed the report.

Mohamed further stated that the Commission of Inquiry joins an increasing number of bodies and experts who have concluded that Israel is committing genocide, despite Israel’s continued denial.

“The space for Israel is closing in now, and I think that this report is particularly important because members of the United Nations, especially those justifying the genocide and providing Israel with arms, resources, and political support, will no longer be able to hide behind denials,” said Mohamed.

“The members will face what these reports clearly state: Israel is committing genocide and, on top of that, crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people.”
