Cape Town will host the 4th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation–IRCICA–Awqaf SA International Conference at the Kirstenbosch Gardens Conference Centre. The event will take place from Friday, September 12, to Sunday, September 14, convening under the theme of “The Representation of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam (SAW) as Depicted in African Islamic Scholarship and Literature.”
Mickaeel Collier, CEO of Awqaf SA, confirmed to VOC News that the first group of guests has already arrived. Over the next three days, they will be welcoming presenters from 40 different countries. The conference will cover a wide range of topics, with a particular emphasis on the influence of Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam (SAW) on Islamic literature and scholarship in Africa.
“We will feature diverse presentations on governance, leadership, business, culture, poetry, and literature, all of which highlight the impact of Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam (SAW) on African Islamic scholarship,” stated Collier.
Collier further emphasised that Africa is a predominantly Muslim continent, with close to 65% of its population identifying as Muslim.
He added, “We need to unshackle our minds from the colonial legacy that has perpetuated the narrative suggesting that only Western hegemony and colonialism brought civilisation to Africa.”
