Early reports from Palestinian media have indicated that unidentified drones were spotted tracking the Sumud Freedom Flotilla in international waters, flying at medium altitude over several ships. This comes as boats across the globe join in to break Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza.
Madison Bannon from the Global Sumud Flotilla team informed VOC News that ten delegates from South Africa are participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla.
“The Global Sumud Flotilla consists of 40 boats. Half of them have already left Barcelona, although a few had to turn back due to unfavourable winds. The remaining boats are en route and are expected to arrive in Tunis tomorrow, September 4, 2025. The other boats will then join them to continue towards Gaza,” she confirmed.
Bannon further described the initiative as the “largest maritime intervention” against Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
“Ordinary activists have stepped up because they are witnessing the horrors daily, and the international community, along with governments, is simply not doing enough to put an end to this genocide,” Bannon emphasised.
