“Declaring famine in Gaza is a stain of shame on the occupation and its backers, demanding immediate action to end the war and open all crossings without delay.”
This is according to the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. The statement comes after the United Nations (UN) Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC)’s announcement of the spread of famine in the Gaza Governorate, along with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) confirmation.
“This also confirms the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe our people are enduring due to the ongoing Israeli aggression, which uses starvation as a tool of war and genocide against civilians, in blatant violation of international humanitarian law and all international norms and conventions,” said Hamas.
The resistance group further stressed the importance of this UN declaration, even though it comes far too late. This follows continuous warnings of a systematic siege and starvation against Palestinians.
“The occupation’s denial of this documented reality and its false claims that there is no famine in Gaza reveal a criminal mentality that deliberately lies to cover up the crime of starvation committed against children, women, and the sick—in blatant defiance of all international laws and norms,” reiterated Hamas.”Declaring famine in Gaza is a stain of shame on the occupation and its backers, demanding immediate action to end the war and open all crossings without delay.”
