National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has voiced concern over remarks questioning the competence and integrity of Parliament’s Legal Services. The unit has come under scrutiny during the work of the ad hoc committee investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Parliament’s spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said Didiza has full confidence in the legal team, stressing their professionalism, ethical conduct, and constitutional expertise.
He warned that personal attacks on legal advisers’ risk undermining Parliament’s credibility.
“With regard to the suggestion that external advisors should be sought for this ad hoc committee process, the Speaker affirms that no fundamentally different expertise will be brought from outside that does not already exist within Parliament. All legal advisors must be engaged with respect and decorum as a matter of principle and institutional integrity,” Mothapo said.
