Members of Operation Shanela II in the Western Cape made several arrests over the weekend in targeted operations against gang-related crime, seizing firearms, ammunition, and drugs. On Saturday, officers arrested a 48-year-old woman at a premises in Buall Walk, Hanover Park, after acting on intelligence regarding contraband stored on the property. Police recovered a 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition, mandrax tablets, and six sachets of tik.
Later the same day, a 42-year-old man was apprehended at the corner of Govan Mbeki and Ottery Road in Hanover Park during a stop-and-search operation. He was found in possession of 300 mandrax tablets and an undisclosed sum of money suspected to be the proceeds of crime. In a separate incident in the same area, police arrested a 40-year-old man for possession of 50 unga sachets and tik.
In Ravensmead, two suspects aged 22 and 45 were arrested on Jakaranda Street in Uitsig for dealing in drugs. Officers seized 100 mandrax tablets, a plastic bag containing tik, and cash believed to be linked to criminal activity.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Frederick C. van Wyk confirmed that all suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone and Goodwood Magistrates’ Courts on Monday.
