From September 12–14, Cape Town will host the 4th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation–IRCICA–Awqaf SA International Conference at the Kirstenbosch Gardens Conference Centre.
Scholars, historians, and cultural leaders from across Africa and the Muslim world are expected to attend the event.
Zeinoul Aberdeen Cajee, CEO of Awqaf SA, told VOC News that the main participant in the conference is the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), the arm of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) representing 57 countries, mostly Muslim nations, including some observer countries.
“Since 2006, we have been organizing these events, and this will be the fourth one to take place in South Africa.”
“Africa’s Islamic heritage and scholarship is the primary focus, and this is about commemorating 1,500 years since the Prophet Muhammad’s birth (PBUP). We wish to highlight the legacy and tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUP) in Africa.”
