Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy has appointed an interim board to lead the embattled Road Accident Fund (RAF), following the dissolution of the previous board in July due to governance failures.
The newly appointed board will be chaired by Kenneth Brown, former Chief Procurement Officer at National Treasury, with Nonhlanhla Mabusela-Aikhuere, a former investment banker, serving as vice-chairperson.
Speaking to the media briefing, Creecy said the interim board would serve for six months or until a permanent board is established.
“The Interim Board will provide strategic direction to the entity and enable it to deliver on its mandate. It will also help ensure financial and governance stability at the Road Accident Fund,” she said.
Creecy added that the interim board is expected to fully cooperate with current and future investigations by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) into alleged irregularities at the RAF.
The comes amid mounting public concern over the RAF’s financial management and its ability to process claims efficiently.
