WCED urges parents to confirm school placements

The Western Cape Education Department has reminded parents that today is the final day to confirm school placement offers for Grade R, 1 and 8 learners for the 2027 academic year. Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said the online admissions system will automatically place learners at midnight if offers are not confirmed, based on their highest-ranked available option.

“Today marks the final day for parents to confirm their school placement choices on the WCED admissions system for Grade R, 1 and 8 for the 2027 school year,” said Hammond.

She cautioned that unconfirmed applications will be processed automatically.

“Please note that at midnight tonight, 15 June, the system will automatically place learners based on their highest-ranked available option if they have not confirmed their placement choices,” she said.

Hammond added that more than 46,000 learners received multiple placement offers during the first phase of the admissions process, which will now free up additional spaces for other applicants.

“Over 46,000 Grade R, 1 and 8 learners received multiple offers during this first stage. Therefore, thousands of places will open up for other learners going forward,” she said.

She encouraged parents and caregivers to treat the process as ongoing and active, noting that placement offers will continue to be made as spaces become available.
