WCED to Release Grade R, 1 and 8 Admission Outcomes as Placement Process Gets Underway

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) says outcomes for on-time applications for Grades R, 1 and 8 admissions for next year will be available from Thursday.

Parents and guardians have been urged not to panic if their children do not receive immediate placement, as the admissions process continues to shift in the days and weeks following the initial release of results.

Education MEC David Maynier has encouraged parents to accept one offer quickly and confirm their choices by 15 June, noting that more spaces will open up as the process unfolds.

“At the point when outcomes are first released, a substantial number of learners will have received offers from more than one school. For example, last year, over 40 000 learners had multiple successful outcomes at various schools and were initially ‘double parked’ on the system,” Maynier said.

He explained that although some parents may initially see that their child has not been successful at a particular school, many placements are temporarily held by learners with multiple offers.

The department has outlined key points for parents, stressing that the admissions process does not end with the first release of results, and that significant movement in placements typically follows.

Parents are encouraged to accept one offer if multiple placements are received, to help free up space for other learners, and to ensure contact details remain updated as schools may reach out directly when places become available.

“We ask for your patience and understanding during this phase. The department is closely monitoring the process and remains committed to ensuring that every learner is placed,” Maynier added.
