VOC’s Muharram Picnic, a day for family

On Sunday, VOC hosted its very first Muharram Picnic, where it encouraged communities to welcome the new Islamic year, 1438, in the spirit of family. The event, which was hosted at Minitown, in Melkbosstrand, was attended by a flood of families, all hoping to spend the day out in sun.

Guests were entertained by Local comedian, Waasief Piekaan, as well as nasheed artists, Toyer Abrahams and Ishmael Galant.

As parents used the day to relax, kids were provided with an array of fun activities, such as games, a ‘mini-petting zoo’, and swimming.

While People came from all over the Western Cape, including Saldanha and Paarl, VOC was excited to host guests from Canada.

For many, the highlight of the day was the ‘ice-breaker’, in which guests were taught methods of relaxation, such as zumba.

Guests continued to enter the venue after 3pm, all excitedly anticipating the many activities on offer.

“After 3pm we still had people coming in, and we had over a thousand people attend the event. So, it was a huge event,” VOC’s Sukayna Johaadien explained.
