A 38-year-old foreign national is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday following his arrest in connection with a suspected human trafficking case in Milnerton.
The arrest was made on Monday during a joint operation conducted at a house in Brooklyn, Milnerton.
Three women, aged between 21 and 26, were also rescued during the operation and are believed to be possible victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said the arrest followed a broader investigation into alleged human trafficking activities in the area.
“The arrest emanates from a follow-up investigation that discovered a possible trafficker who trafficked young women for sexual exploitation,” Hani said.
She added that further investigations revealed the suspect was allegedly in the country illegally.
“The possible trafficker was immediately arrested and through further investigation it was established that he is illegally in the country,” Hani said.
The suspect now faces charges relating to trafficking in persons as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing, while authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged trafficking operation.
