The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in Dunoon says it does not support the planned March and March protest scheduled for 13 June 2026, citing concerns relating to illegal immigration, crime and unemployment in the community.
Following extensive discussions within its executive committee, SANCO said residents’ concerns had been acknowledged, but the organisation rejected the methods being used.
“SANCO Dunoon acknowledges that some of the issues being raised by March and March and Operation Dudula resonate with residents who are grappling with poverty, unemployment and crime. However, the organisation does not support the methods being employed by these groups,” said executive committee member Bonginkosi Luthuli.
SANCO stressed that immigration enforcement falls under law enforcement agencies and the Department of Home Affairs, warning against vigilantism and misinformation circulating on social media claiming that the organisation is involved in the march.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his national address on Sunday and weekly newsletter, said the government is responding to concerns around illegal migration through its Comprehensive Approach for Migration Management.
However, March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma said the measures do not match the scale of the crisis.
The National Informal Traders Alliance of South Africa (NITASA) welcomed calls for calm but warned that regulatory gaps continue to affect small businesses.
