Police investigating kidnapping of Athlone businessman

Western Cape police have declined to comment on the kidnapping of an Athlone businessman, saying the case is “sensitive”. Naushaad Khan, the owner of Khan’s Punjabis, was the victim of an armed robbery and kidnapping on Monday night.

According to police, the 46 year old businessman and his 51 year old colleague were approached by a group of six armed suspects at around 17:40pm when they left their business in Hadji Ebrahim Crescent Athlone.

“The suspects left the scene in a white Toyota LDV with an undisclosed amount of cash and took the 46 year old businessman with them. He is yet to be found. The female victim was left behind on the scene and was not injured during the incident,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

At this stage, its uncertain if a ransom has been requested by the suspects.  Traut said other finer aspects of the case cannot be disclosed.

The police have urged anyone with person with information regarding the matter or the victim’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stop on 10111. VOC
