A man who allegedly told Oscar Pistorius he could quash his murder conviction was sentenced to four years in jail for corruption, the Hawks said on Wednesday.
Tshifhiwa Radzhadzhi, 33, masqueraded as a prosecutor from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and apparently demanded R250 000 from the former Paralympian in March.
Pistorius family spokesperson Anneliese Burgess confirmed at the time that Pistorius had informed the Hawks after being approached.
The Hawks dispatched a team to deal with the matter. During the operation, the man was given R40 000 in cash before being arrested near the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
On Monday, the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sentenced Radzhadzhi to four years for corruption, said Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
He was also sentenced to eight years for impersonating a prosecutor, wholly suspended for four years.
Pistorius was originally sentenced to five years for culpable homicide for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine’s Day on February 14, 2013.
In November 2015 the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned his culpable homicide conviction and, finding in favour of the State, replaced it with murder. He had to be placed on bail again and the conditions were even stricter than his correctional supervision conditions.
He was eventually sentenced to six years in prison. The State is currently attempting to appeal the sentence.
