On Monday, 15 December 2025, reports emerged regarding a suspicious Quantum vehicle traveling to Wynberg, Cape Town. Information received through various social media platforms indicated an alleged plan to target a witness scheduled to appear in court that day.

According to Mayco Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith, the Wynberg CBD Operational Team was mobilised to patrol and monitor the vicinity of the court. During their patrol, team members observed the Quantum parked on Church Street with seven occupants. The officers approached the vehicle using tactical procedures and instructed the occupants to exit the vehicle.

“The occupants were searched and were found in possession of three prohibited firearms, ammunition, dangerous weapons, cell phones, and narcotics,” added Smith.

Smith confirmed that initial investigations suggest the suspects have links to known gangs and may be involved in previous shootings.

The suspects were arrested and handed over to the Wynberg South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
