The National E-Hailers Federation of South Africa (NEFSA) says it rejects claims that the South African National Taxi Council is the apex body representing the e-hailing sector.
NEFSA spokesperson Tella Masakale said references to the 2020 Transport Lekgotla resolutions cannot reasonably be used to justify such claims.
He argued that the e-hailing sector was only officially promulgated into law in September 2025, making it impossible for any organisation to have legitimately represented a sector that did not yet legally exist.
“The National E-Hailing Federation of South Africa calls for an urgent meeting with the newly elected national SANTACO leadership and government regulators to recognise the right of NEFSA and its provincial affiliates to self-determination, independence, and formal recognition as legitimate representatives of the meter taxi and e-hailing industries,” Masakale said.
