MK Party Member of Parliament Vusi Shongwe is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Shongwe told Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee that his testimony relates to a meeting held in Durban at the invitation of Crime Intelligence head Major-General Feroz Khan.
“The testimony relates to a meeting in Durban that I attended at the invitation of Major-General Feroz Khan,” Shongwe told the committee.
The development comes amid ongoing legal and criminal proceedings involving Khan, who was recently arrested on charges linked to alleged violations of the Precious Metals Act.
Meanwhile, the High Court in Johannesburg has struck Khan’s urgent application off the roll after electronic devices seized during a police raid were handed over to the Madlanga Commission.
Khan had sought the return of several cellphones and laptops, arguing that the devices contain sensitive intelligence information linked to undercover operations and national security matters.
In court papers, Khan warned that unrestricted access to the devices could compromise investigations and place lives at risk.
Khan is also challenging the legality of the warrantless search and seizure conducted during the raid.
