National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza said Parliament remains committed to strengthening oversight, improving service delivery, and ensuring a more accountable and people-centred legislature.
Speaking during discussions on Parliament’s 2026/2027 budget, Didiza revealed that the institution has been allocated a total budget of R6.3 billion.
The budget includes R3.3 billion from the National Treasury, along with internally generated revenue and funds allocated for rebuilding projects.
Didiza stressed the importance of ensuring that Parliament’s legislative processes remain constitutionally sound and legally compliant. She noted that recent Constitutional Court rulings have highlighted the need for amendments to certain parliamentary rules and procedures.
“The recent Constitutional Court judgment found that some of our rules are not consistent with the Constitution and therefore require review and amendment,” said Didiza.
She added that Parliament must continue strengthening its law-making processes to ensure transparency, accountability, and public confidence in democratic institutions.
