Bus Stoning Incidents in Dunoon Leave Seven Passengers Injured

The Western Cape Department of Mobility, the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate, and Sibanye Bus Services have strongly condemned the ongoing attacks on buses operating in and around Dunoon. According to the organisations, the repeated stoning incidents have not only caused extensive damage to public transport vehicles but have also put the safety of passengers and drivers at serious risk, prompting authorities to urge the public to help identify those responsible.

Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer reported that since 22 May, there have been 41 stoning incidents in Dunoon, including five that occurred this morning. These attacks have caused damage to 47 bus windows and three windscreens.

“While the damage to vehicles is significant, the greater concern is the human impact. At least seven passengers have been injured in these incidents. It is not acceptable to threaten, intimidate or injure innocent people simply because they choose to travel by bus. No one should be subjected to violence or fear for exercising their right to choose how they travel. Each incident has been reported to SAPS and we appreciate the support of law enforcement and other role players. These cowardly criminals must be caught and brought to book.” She said
