ANC refers five members, including Tolashe and Cele, to disciplinary committee after Integrity Commission findings

The African National Congress (ANC) has resolved to refer five party members — Sisisi Tolashe, Bheki Cele, Jason Mkhwane, Thanduxolo Khalipa and Sithembiso Zungu — to its National Disciplinary Committee following recommendations by the party’s Integrity Commission.

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula announced the decision during a media briefing at African National Congress headquarters, Luthuli House, on Tuesday.

Mbalula said the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had considered and fully endorsed the Integrity Commission’s report relating to the five members.

“The NEC fully endorsed the report of the Integrity Commission and its recommendations on each of the comrades named,” said Mbalula.

He added that the NEC had resolved to escalate the matters through the party’s constitutional disciplinary processes.

“The NEC shall refer all five matters to the National Disciplinary Committee of the ANC for action under the constitutional disciplinary process of the organisation, with the NEC itself serving as the complainant,” he said.

Mbalula also praised the Integrity Commission for its role in promoting accountability and organisational renewal within the governing party.

“The Integrity Commission is the conscience of the ANC. Its work, performed without favour or fear, remains one of the principal instruments through which the ANC renews itself,” he said.

The ANC confirmed that the disciplinary processes will now proceed in accordance with the party’s constitution.
