Britain, Canada, France, Norway, New Zealand, and Australia have announced a new round of sanctions targeting Israeli settler groups and individuals accused of facilitating and financing violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
The coordinated measures, unveiled on Tuesday, come amid growing international concern over a surge in settler attacks across the territory. The six countries have also issued a non-binding recommendation calling for restrictions on trade with Israeli settlements.
According to the Palestinian media outlet Quds News Network, citing a statement from the British government, the sanctions are aimed at disrupting financial networks that have enabled extremist settler groups to operate with relative impunity in the occupied West Bank.
Reporting from the West Bank, journalist Osama Nazzal says Palestinian officials and residents have welcomed the move, describing it as a rare but significant step by the international community to hold individuals linked to settler violence accountable.
“The Israeli occupation continues to escalate its aggression in Gaza. The occupation has killed approximately 72,993 people since the start of the war. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers maliciously attack Palestinian villagers and farmers, stealing Palestinians’ livestock and crops while under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces,” said Nazzal.
