A nationwide initiative transforms social media purple to highlight the plight of GBV victims

Women For Change South Africa, a prominent advocacy group opposing gender-based violence, has sparked a national movement that is transforming social media into purple to raise awareness of the ongoing suffering of GBV victims.

Speaking to VOC News, renowned woman advocacy group, Callas Foundation, explained that the concept is a united call from all organisations nationwide to compel the nation to acknowledge and focus on the issue of gender-based violence.

“The purple campaign is communities, social media users, and people from different backgrounds coming together saying that if the government is not going to protect us, we are going to stand for ourselves,” stated Mashiyi.

VOC News reached out to Women For Change for a statement but did not receive a reply.
