Iran has claimed that the United States revoked its allocation of World Cup tickets ahead of the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico and kicks off on Thursday.
According to Iran’s football governing body, the decision is the latest in a series of measures aimed at limiting Iranian supporters’ presence at World Cup venues. The federation argues that the move undermines the rights of its fans, many of whom have already made travel and accommodation arrangements in anticipation of attending the matches.
Iran is scheduled to play all three of its group-stage fixtures in the United States, where it will face New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.
Tournament regulations stipulate that each participating nation is entitled to receive eight percent of the ticket allocation for its matches. Iranian officials contend that the withdrawal of these tickets unfairly disadvantages their supporters and raises concerns about equal access for fans during the competition.
