Western Cape Agriculture Minister Ivan Meyer says serious attention needs to placed on farmworker transportation in the province.
He says the standing committee in the provincial parliament has resolved to support organisations such as Agri Western Cape to resolve problems in the sector.
Meyer says safety remains a huge concern, including licensing capacity for vehicles transporting workers, hygienic conditions and possible exposure to COVID-19.
He says there’s no law determining the number of people to be loaded on the back of a bakkie or a truck.
