W Cape bus crash kills 13

The death toll on Sunday morning’s fatal bus crash near Touwsriver in the Boland has risen to 13.

The bus was en-route to Cape Town from Johannesburg when the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road.

Western Cape Traffic spokesperson, Jacques Mosterdt, says it is unclear if the driver died in the crash.

“Nine lost their lives just after 02:00 am on the N1 outside Touw’s River. The driver of a long distance coach lost control of bus and it overturned with 65 passengers in the bus. Ten people were seriously injured and taken to nearest hospital.”

The cause of crash is still unknown and the road is open for traffic.
