Two arrested in Cape Town drug busts

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape arrested a 26-year-old man in Brooklyn on Tuesday for alleged drug dealing.

During a search operation conducted by the Cape Town K9 Unit and Maitland Flying Squad at a property on Van Riebeek Road, officers uncovered a stash of narcotics hidden in a bed base and a parked vehicle.

Authorities seized a variety of drugs, including heroin, tik, mandrax, ecstasy, compressed dagga, and prescription medication, with an estimated high street value, according to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

In a separate operation, Cape Town Central police officers were patrolling Orange Street when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously.

“Trusting their instincts, officers conducted a search and found 50 mandrax tablets, 48 small packets of crystal meth, five packets of dagga, and two larger packets of dagga,” Twigg stated. A 43-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs.
Both individuals are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once formal charges have been laid.
