Iran Offers China Preferential Passage Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, says Beijing and other friendly nations will be granted preferential access through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the arrangement will be implemented in coordination with Oman. This comes amid growing tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints.

The comments have raised fresh questions about the geopolitical implications of Iran’s control over one of the world’s busiest energy corridors and what preferential access could mean for global shipping, trade, and regional security.

International relations analyst Oscar Van Heerden unpacked the significance of Iran’s announcement, the potential impact on international maritime traffic, and the broader diplomatic ramifications.
